What is Sakriya?

In Sanskrit language Sakriya means "being active". One way of being active is to take part in the activity or event of your choice in a locality of your choice.

Why should I use Sakriya?

Sakriya helps you discover which activities or events are happening in your locality and the activities or events of your liking are happening in which locality. Having this information easily available allows you to take part in that event or become active.

What exactly is an event for Sakriya?

An event for Sakriya is any activity in which people from the general public can participate as consumers of that activity by way of becoming audience, students, listeners, spectators or invitees. Some examples of events are, a drama, a painting exhibition, an offer to teach chess, summer camp for kids, class reunion, PMI certification examination, Special Sunday brunch at a hotel and many more. Sakriya has provided a broad group of categories under which an event could be created. However, if you still can't find a category of your choice, then you could select a general category called "Others" and also contact us about the category you want to see on Sakriya. Sakriya has a comprehensive list of cities in which an event could be created/displayed/posted. However, if you still can't find a city of your choice, then you could select a general city called "Other City" and also contact us about the city you want to see on Sakriya.

Which countries does Sakriya cover?

Sakriya is built to cover all countries of the world. To start with it was launched with data from India. We would be rolling out data from other countries as it becomes available.

From where does Sakriya get it's events?

Sakriya gets events from it's registered users who are individuals like you or individuals representing organizations around you. The registered users of Sakriya create/display/post events on to Sakriya by way of a simple form provided by Sakriya.

Does it cost anything to use or to register?

Use and registration to Sakriya is free! Whether you're an individual or a large organization, it's still free.

What information do I need to provide to become a registered user of Sakriya?

You would need to provide a valid email address, which would be your Sakriya user/login id, you would need to provide a password that would go along with your Sakriya user/login id and finally you would need to provide a user display name which is your identity on Sakriya. That all! It's that simple.

How long does it take to become a Sakriya registered user?

Not very long. Once you provide the registration information you would receive a web link in an email from Sakriya on your registration email address and then just click on the web link and you are a registered user in Sakriya. It's that simple.

How soon can I start creating/displaying/posting events on Sakriya?

There is no wait time. Once you are a registered user all you need to do is login and start creating/displaying/posting events or respond to events created/displayed/posted by others.

What information do I need to provide to create/display/post an event?

Well, Sakriya would provide you with a list of cities and categories in which you want the event to be created/displayed/posted. You would need to have a name and a short description for the event, event timings and event venue details. This is the bare minimum. If you want to make your event accessible with one mouse click, then you could tag your event with up to five key words. If you want to describe your event in details, then you could provide an event description. If want to provide a picture for your event, then you could upload 1 picture. Sakriya does provide you with a generic picture thumbnail according to the category of your event, but that's only visible in events listing and not during the detailed event view.

Are there any restrictions on the sizes of event and user related information?

Yes, the following are the maximum allowed sizes expressed as characters. User: Display Name = 15, Login ID or email = 40, Password = 10, Description = 16000. Event: Name = 80, Short Description = 255, Venue = 40, Street Address = 80, Postal Code = 10, Keyword = 20, Description = 16000, Response = 100. The maximum allowed size for User and Event pictures is 4Mb. The picture file type is JPEG. A size of 16000 characters is roughly equivalent to 3 pages of A4 size paper.

Can I change/edit an event after creating/displaying/posting it?

Yes, you can change/edit most of the information about an event after creating/displaying/posting it. The information that can not be changed are the city and the category. We think that if you want to change the basic event information of city and category then, you might as well delete the event and create a new one.

Can somebody else change/edit/delete an event created/displayed/posted by me?

No. Only the event creator can change/edit/delete the event.

What is responding to an event?

Well, if you want to know more about an event or just want to send a brief message to the event creator then you could do it by clicking on a web link provided with every event. An event would be displayed with all the response that it has received along with who responded and when.

What if I find an event offensive or abusive?

Not a problem, just click "Yes" on a web button while responding to that event and write in your message why you think the event is offensive or abusive.

Could I delete an offensive or abusive event?

You can only delete or edit events that you have created/displayed/posted. However, if Sakriya team determines that there is a good reason to delete an event, then Sakriya team would delete that event.

What is a Sakriya Day?

Sakriya has compiled a list of special days for the current year and named them as Sakriya days. Sakriya provide you this information because, you could use this information to create your event on and around a Sakriya day.
